How much do driving lessons cost in Brisbane?

How many driving lessons do I need to pass?

It depends where you're starting from, so here's the honest breakdown:

  • Total beginner: most learners want 8 to 10 lessons to go from their first drive to test-ready. The 10-pack is built for exactly this.
  • Some experience: a 5-lesson pack is the sweet spot to sharpen up and fill your logbook.
  • Nearly there: a single pretest lesson to learn how the examiner thinks can be all you need.

We'll recommend the right amount when you book, based on where you're at. No upselling.

How do logbook hours work in Queensland?

If you're under 25, Queensland asks for 100 hours of supervised driving (including 10 at night) in your logbook, and you must hold your learner licence for at least 12 months before you can sit the practical driving test.

Here's the shortcut most people miss: every 1-hour lesson with an accredited instructor like RAC counts as 3 hours in your logbook, up to a maximum of 10 lessons. So 10 structured lessons can knock a full 30 hours off your 100.

Over 25? You don't need the 100 hours or the 12-month wait, so you can sit your test as soon as you're ready.

Should I learn in an automatic or a manual?

Most Brisbane learners choose automatic, it's simpler (no clutch, no gears to think about), so you spend more time watching the road and usually get test-ready faster.

Learn manual if you want to drive absolutely anything, including work vehicles, utes and older cars. A manual licence covers you for automatics too.

Both cost exactly the same with us, and every RAC instructor teaches both, so pick whichever suits your plans.

Yes. You can hire one of our dual-controlled cars for your practical driving test for $160, or grab the test-day package ($220), which pairs the car with a warm-up lesson beforehand so you walk in relaxed.

Want to know exactly how the examiner marks you first? A mock test ($93) runs you through the real thing with an instructor, so nothing on the day is a surprise.

Can I convert my overseas licence in Queensland?

Yes. If you're on an overseas licence, we'll get you road-ready and confident for the Queensland practical driving test, in an automatic or a manual, whichever you drive.

The changeover package is $400, and as with everything else it includes pickup and our dual-controlled cars.
